Made to order in a bespoke British hardwood of your choice, this chest of drawers is designed to let the natural beauty of the timber take centre stage.

Pictured with a silver birch leg frame, ash carcass, and spalted elm drawer fronts, finished with brass pulls by Optimum Brasses. Pairs with The Farrow Cabinet.

The Story

Designed as one of a matched pair for a pair of alcoves either side of a fireplace in a Victorian terrace, the brief called for the two pieces to read as a couple, not a twin, each with its own character, but clearly meant to sit together.

This one needed to hold the family's extensive art supplies, easy to see and reach for, to avoid the usual chaos of children rifling through drawers for materials. Slab drawer fronts let the spalted elm do the talking, no applied moulding or added detail competing with the timber's natural colours, each drawer front effectively unique since spalted grain can't easily be matched from one panel to the next.

The simplicity is deliberate, a piece designed to hold attention through the material itself, so it sits equally well in a period home or a contemporary one, holding its own just as well as a standalone piece. Read the full case study →
