Built for the realities of client work

A trade project rarely means a single piece delivered once. It might mean matching an existing scheme, working to a strict site access window, or coordinating delivery around a wider fit-out timeline, and each of those gets factored into the brief from the start, not worked around later.

Timber is sourced from British sawmills wherever possible, and every piece is shaped through a combination of machine accuracy and hand-finishing, the same process used across every commission, whether it's specified by a client directly or through a design practice.

Two recent pieces show the kind of problem-solving this involves in practice. A matched pair of alcove cabinets was built for a Victorian terrace's fireplace recesses, and an oversized 2.8-metre sofa, a humungous version of The Aldan, was built to dismantle into five sections, solving the dog-legs and tight corner access problems common in period house layouts. The same approach applies to trade projects, working through whatever the specific building throws up before a single cut is made, not adapting a standard design afterward.
