sustainablity
Trew and Bold — meaning “Tree & Build” in Old English — is rooted in a simple principle: to create fine furniture with integrity, using natural materials and traditional craftsmanship, designed to last for generations.
Much of today’s furniture is mass-produced from particleboard, toxic glues, and plastic veneers. Even so-called solid wood is typically from unregulated forestry, contributing to monocultures, decimated habitats, and a disposable culture driven by short-lived trends.
Mass-produced products travel thousands of miles, have a huge carbon footprint, clog landfill sites with non-biodegradable nasties and frequently have dubious workplace ethics from low-cost labour factories.
We take a different approach.
Responsible Sourcing – All our timbers are sustainably sourced from British woodlands with full provenance and respect for the environment.
Low-Impact Drying – Our timber is mostly purchased air-dried and to keep it at an even moisture content. We finish the process in a purpose-built solar kiln at our workshop, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Carbon Conscious – Solid wood naturally stores carbon; by making enduring furniture, we help keep that carbon locked away for generations.
Timeless Craft – We work closely with each client to design furniture that avoids trends and is built to endure both in quality and in style.
Sustainable Upholstery – We collaborate with local craftspeople using only traditional methods and natural or recycled materials — from springs and webbing to feathers and fillings — ensuring comfort, durability, and responsibility in every detail.
Our goal is simple: to prove that furniture can be both beautiful and sustainable. Every piece is made with care, designed to enrich daily life, and built to tread lightly on our planet.
