About
I grew up in rural Devon, surrounded by creativity and conversations about design. My dad, a conservation architect, and my mum, a gifted maker, filled our home with ideas about sustainability and craftsmanship. Along with my two brothers, I was always encouraged to make rather than buy — a mantra that’s stuck with me ever since.
My journey began with sculpture, training classically in Florence, Italy where I learned to see beauty in form, balance, and proportion. Working in 3D felt like second nature, and those Renaissance principles continue to shape the way I design today.
When my children were little, I turned to furniture restoration and teaching — roles that gave me flexibility and deepened my appreciation for the stories held within objects. But the pull to design and make for myself never left me. Therefore, I decided to put my formal furniture making qualifications to good use so Trew & Bold was born.
Now, from my farm-based workshop just outside Bristol, I design and create pieces that are functional, beautiful, and built to last. The british timber is sourced sustainably mostly from the south west with a high proportion coming directly from the surrounding woodland a stones throw from the workshop. Every piece is finished with natural oils to bring out the unique character of each piece of timber.
For me, this is about more than furniture. It’s about gathering with family and friends around heirlooms that carry meaning, connect us to nature, and can be cherished for generations.
